| Shawnee Legend Long ago, when the Delaware tribe called their principal village at the headwaters of the Muskingum River, Goschagunk, now known as Coshocton, Ohio. They would have a festival celebrating the fall. Anticipating the arrival of the Shawnee tribe, they would set up lodging, fire pits, and prepare a great feast. This was done to the west of Goschagunk high on a hill near a spring. After the Shawnee arrived, a celebration took place to renew old friendships, remember the past year and talk about the future. They sang, danced, and ate. They traded goods, animal skins and other crafts. It is with this same spirit that Shawnee Springs Winery was founded over three hundred years later. In 1997, The Hall family established the estate Winery considered to be one of Ohio's best-kept secrets. |
